1. Set the table appropriately. It is always best to have the utensils in the correct position.
2. Read the clock. Carbohydrates are placed at 11 o'clock, the vegetables at 2 o'clock, and the protein at 6 o'clock.
3. Be odd. Food generally look more interesting if they are in sets of odd numbers.
4. Play with color and texture. The color of your food should be complimentary with the color of the plate or napkin below the plate.
5. Garnish properly. Any garnishes on the plate should be edible and should enhance the flavor of the main dishes.
